Okotoks Fire & Rescue is staffed by 32 full time firefighters complemented by Community Firefighters operating from two stations, and responding to over 1,200 calls a year. The Department is responsible for fire suppression, vehicle extrication, rescue, disaster services, minor hazmat cleanup and providing medical first response and medical co-response when requested by Alberta Health Services in the Town of Okotoks and in the surrounding rural area in the Municipal District of Foothills. Okotoks Fire also provides Mutual Aid to fire services in surrounding communities.
Firefighters receive National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 certified training. Okotoks firefighters are also certified through the Alberta College of Paramedics to a minimum of Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) for part-time staff and Paramedics (PCP) for full-time staff. Firefighters also attend weekly training sessions to maintain fire fighting and medical skills, and are tested annually to ensure that they continue to meet the department's standards.
