Municipal Heritage Designation Program

In 2018, the Town of Okotoks began a project to formally recognize and preserve the community’s heritage, including valued historic buildings, parks, and cultural landscapes. This work led to the creation of the Municipal Heritage Designation Program (MHDP), which provides a framework to identify, protect and celebrate Okotoks’ rich and diverse heritage, while supporting the long-term preservation of its historic places.

Places of Interest

The Places of Interest List has a few different names. You may see it as the Places of Interest List, Heritage Property Inventory, or Inventory of Potential Heritage Properties. This list is the result of a survey done by the Town of Okotoks in 2020 to find potential properties for the Municipal Heritage Designation Program that were eligible based on the program criteria. They are not designated, but have historic value to the town. Each of these places has a history, and story to tell that has established a “sense of place” and character for Okotoks.
