The community is invited to a Pipe Ceremony with Blackfoot Elders in Ethel Tucker Park (behind Bow Valley College, Okotoks Campus) on June 21 to honour National Indigenous People's Day. At the ceremony, we will be making an offering to creator through smoking the pipe and praying that we are all good relatives with each other, good stewards of the land, good neighbours and good friends.
National Indigenous People's Day takes place on June 21 each year and is a day for Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of Indigenous People. For generations, many Indigenous peoples and communities have celebrated their culture and heritage on or near this day due to the significance of the summer solstice as the longest day of the year.
