New Youth Centre Grand Opening & Roller Skating Party

  • Join us for the official Grand Opening of the new Youth Centre at the Okotoks Recreation Centre on Friday, February 14 from 3 to 9:30 p.m.! The event will include an address from Mayor Thorn and the unveiling of the Youth Centre Optimist Donor Wall, free roller skating in the gymnasium, games, snacks and more! 

    Take part in all the free fun and check out everything this new youth space has to offer!

    Transportation

    For those living on the south side of Okotoks, there is a free Southland bus scheduled for 7:00 p.m. to pick up individuals attending the event at JPII School and drop off at the Okotoks Rec Centre. The bus will return to the Okotoks Rec Centre after the event at 10:00 p.m. for pick up, and drop off will once again be at JP II. Please note, the bus ride will be free, but spots are limited and will be first-come, first-served. 

    New Youth Centre Grand Opening - Schedule of Events 

    • 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. - Youth Centre is open to all ages. Check out our assortment of gaming consoles, board games, gaming equipment and more! 
    • 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. - Address from Mayor Thorn and unveiling of the Youth Centre Optimist Donor Wall 
    • 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. - Free all-ages roller skating in the gymnasium 
    • 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. - Free youth (ages 12 to 17) roller skating in the gymnasium 
    • 10:00 p.m. - Bus arrives for pick up and drop off back at JP II

    Roller Skating Information 

    • All roller skating participants must sign a waiver prior to skating. View and sign Roller Skating Waiver. 
    • Roller skates will be provided by Biggies Roller Rink.
    • Helmets are highly encouraged. There will be a limited number available to borrow on site, but we encourage attendees to bring their own if they have one. 
    • Socks must be worn in roller skates. 
    • *Time limits for roller skating may be implemented to accommodate all participants who want to roller skate.

    About the Youth Centre

    The Okotoks Youth Centre is intended for youth ages 8 to 17 (teens 18 years are welcome until they graduate Grade 12). The new Youth Centre space is located outside of the Okotoks Recreation Centre gymnasium, in between the curling rink and KC's eatery. It has been equipped specifically for youth with a TV lounge that includes a flat screen TV, XBox gaming console, pool table, air hockey table and a multi-purpose area for games, programs, and activities.
